BioDr. Agatha Caraballo is a Digital Instructor and the Undergraduate Program Director for the Department of Public Administration at Florida International University (FIU). As a faculty instructor, she designs and teaches fully online courses. Several of her online courses have received Quality Matters certification, a national peer-reviewed benchmark for online education. In her role as the Undergraduate Program Director, she oversees the Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) degree major, minor, and undergraduate Leadership Studies Certificate. She recently spearheaded a major undergraduate curriculum reform and successfully launched a fully online BPA degree option, starting in Fall 2015.
Since 2011, she has been the acting Director of The Council for Corporate Responsibility and a Chapter Leader for the South Florida Diversity Council, both subsidiaries of the National Diversity Council. In addition, she serves as an Officer on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA)'s South Florida Chapter and ASPA's Section for Women in Public Administration. She is also a member of the United States Technical Advisory Group in Human Resource Management (U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 260), a committee developed by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), on behalf of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In addition, Dr. Caraballo serves as the Faculty Adviser for the Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society at FIU, a student chapter of the national honor society for public affairs and administration.
Dr. Caraballo has helped plan and host numerous professional and educational events in South Florida, including as: Chair of the 2011 & 2012 South Florida Diversity Best Practices Meetings ; Chair of the 2012 Florida College Diversity Summit; Site Committee Co-Chair of the Public Administration Theory Network's 2014 International Conference; Co-Chair of the annual ASPA Best Practices Conference (2011-Present); and Co-Chair of the annual Florida Corporate Responsibility Summits (2013-Present).
Raised in Northern California, Dr. Caraballo earned an Associate of Arts in Communication from Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, California. She later moved to South Florida and earned both her Bachelor of Science in Communications and a PhD in Public Affairs from FIU. She has a professional background in higher education, nonprofits, and public relations. Dr. Caraballo and her husband Leo are the proud parents of a daughter and a son.
