Bio

Dr. Pintea is a professor and the Chairperson of the Economics Department in the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs at Florida International University.   Originally from Romania, she obtained her PhD in Economics from University of Washington and joined the FIU in 2003. She has also been a Visiting Scholar at the International Monetary Fund and taught at the University of Maryland.

Her research interests span macroeconomics, economic growth and development, as well as demographic economics and she has published articles in refereed journals such as Review of Economic Dynamics, Journal of Macroeconomics, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, The B.E. Journal of Macroeconomics and so on.

Her research covers public policy, and the way governments can affect welfare and growth through taxation and the provision of public goods; how R&D, learning, structural change, and international trade affect aggregate labor productivity; within-family interactions and female labor participation and welfare.
